As you hopefully know, today is Giving Tuesday. However, unlike prior Giving Tuesdays, we are not asking for monetary donations, but rather the gift of your time.
Do you have two hours a week, or even just two hours a month, to sit with a family for their supervised family visit? This may sound like a daunting, scary task, but once you see the joy you put on a child's face when they are able to see their parent(s) and/or their siblings, as well as the peace of mind this brings a parent to be able to reassure them that their child is safe and okay, such a reward cannot be measured.
The families we work with often find themselves in the situation they are in because they are living in poverty, may not have suitable housing, and countless other non-violent reasons that have caused their child(ren) to enter the foster care system. Several of our clients are working hard to beat drug addictions, partly because of repeating cycles from their own childhood, and partly because they are self-medicating issues such as anxiety, depression, and physical pain. Most do not want to be in the situation they are in, and most desperately want to do what is necessary to be reunited with their children, but need guidance, understanding, and reassurance to be successful toward this end.
Our mission is to keep families connected, one visit at a time. By becoming a volunteer visit supervisor for All For Family, you will have the opportunity to play a vital role in helping a family to heal and be reunited. Many of us recognize how broken our society is, and, especially, how broken the foster care system is. The best way to resolve this is to build stronger families. Can you donate the gift of time to help us do just that?
If, for some reason, you are not able to help supervise family visits, we could use volunteers in other ways as well. For instance, we could use volunteers to help us write blog articles or newsletters such as this one. We could use help in creating volunteer appreciation gifts so they know how much we treasure them, or in sending out letters to donors and sponsors. We are also in need of help for fundraisers.
So, for this Giving Tuesday, will you please take a moment to reflect on whether you are able to give the gift of your time to help us support our efforts of keeping families connected one visit at a time.
